On June 17, 2024, in the morning, a collision occurred in Yongtun Village, Dongshi Township, Chiayi County, between a truck and an SUV, causing the SUV to lose control and crash into a local landmark resulting in its destruction. The accident led to 1 fatality and 3 injuries, with the investigation into the cause ongoing. The incident occurred at a crossroad where the truck and SUV collided head-on. One male victim (59 years old) suffered a cardiac arrest on the scene and later passed away despite emergency medical treatment. The other three injured individuals, two adults and a child, sustained minor injuries and were taken to Chiayi Chang Gung Hospital for treatment.
