Reported 9 months ago

Ecuadorian authorities reported on June 16 that a heavy rain-induced landslide in the southern tourist destination of Banos de Agua Santa resulted in at least 6 deaths and 19 injuries. The incident occurred near the base of an active volcano in the picturesque Tungurahua province. While initial reports indicated 6 deaths, 30 missing persons, and 19 injuries, all missing individuals were found later. Several coastal resorts and main roads leading to the area have been closed due to the heavy rain that lasted from the night of the 15th to the 16th, hindering rescue efforts. The ECU 911 national emergency organization issued warnings about unfavorable weather conditions for road clearing, and residents shared photos showing multiple rivers in the area on the brink of flooding. The President's Office reported 48 emergency situations nationwide due to heavy rain-induced damages in other regions as well.
