On July 8, 2024, at 2:35 am, Tainan City Councilor Lin Yiting expressed grief over the shooting death of her father, Lin Shijie, stating they do not know the gunman and trust the police will uncover the truth. Lin Shijie, Chairman of the Tainan City Fishing Association, was fatally shot at close range, prompting a swift investigation by the authorities. City Mayor Huang Weizhe urged for a quick resolution, and a special task force has been formed to track down the assailant. The incident occurred early in the morning as Lin Shijie was leaving his home, with the unidentified perpetrator escaping the scene afterward. The police suspect premeditation due to the manner of the attack, evidenced by the multiple gunshots aimed at Lin Shijie. Lin Yiting, also a Tainan City Councilor, pleaded for privacy for the family and emphasized their lack of knowledge about the gunman, describing her father's life as normal prior to the tragic event.
