Father Prosecuted for Severe Abuse on Infant Resulting in Permanent Blindness

Reported 7 months ago

A man in his twenties in New Taipei City, known as Ah Ren, took over the care of the only child of his wife suffering from postpartum depression. However, a month later, the infant was found with injuries resembling being struck with a baseball bat, resulting in lifelong blindness due to the removal of eye vitreous humor. Medical examination revealed severe brain injuries, and the hospital determined the infant had been severely hit, as if with a baseball bat, leading to the serious head injuries. Following an investigation, the prosecutor pressed charges against Ah Ren for intentionally abusing the infant. Ah Ren's wife, who was not the primary caregiver at the time of the incident, was not prosecuted due to lack of evidence showing her involvement or knowledge of the matter. This case highlights the importance of rejecting violent behavior and respecting bodily autonomy.
