On July 8, 2024, early in the morning, Lin Shijie, the director of the Tainan District Fishery Association, was shot and killed by an assailant in front of his home in Tainan. His daughter, Tainan City Councilor Lin Yiting, expressed her sorrow on Facebook. Lin Shijie sustained fatal gunshot wounds to the neck and chest. Lin Yiting tearfully expressed her regret as her father won't be able to hold a grandchild by the end of the year, emphasizing that she does not know the gunman's identity or motive and leaving the investigation to the police.
