On July 2, 2024, a ferry carrying 140 passengers and crew members ran aground near the entrance of Tomakomai Port in Hokkaido, Japan, but fortunately, there were no casualties reported. The ferry, named 'Silver Breeze,' remained stuck for over 10 hours before being towed away without any injuries or water leakage. Passengers recalled feeling tremors like an earthquake as the ferry hit the breakwater, with one passenger capturing the situation on camera. Kawasaki Kinkai Kisen, the ferry's operator, decided to cancel services for the following days.
