Microsoft president comments on minimal AI deepfakes in EU elections

Reported 6 months ago

Microsoft's President Brad Smith revealed in an interview that there has been a limited use of artificial intelligence for generating disinformation campaigns in the European Parliamentary elections. Smith announced Microsoft's plan to invest $3.21 billion in Sweden for expanding its cloud and AI infrastructure, highlighting the risks AI poses in creating abusive content like deepfakes. While AI-generated fakes are increasingly used in elections globally, the European Union has been debunking disinformation, including a video spreading false messages about citizens in Poland. As the European Parliament election approaches, Microsoft is training candidates to monitor the situation and will release a report on the topic.
