Charlie Javice, founder of the student financial aid startup Frank, was sentenced to seven years in prison for defrauding JPMorgan Chase out of $175 million by falsifying customer records. Although she claimed to have over four million customers, it was revealed that Frank had fewer than 300,000. After the acquisition in 2021, JPMorgan Chase took a year to uncover the fraud, highlighting significant oversights in their vetting process. Javice was also ordered to pay $287.5 million in restitution.
