A fire broke out around 4 a.m., engulfing a large area, resulting in over 1000 animals perishing in the blaze, while thankfully no casualties among humans were reported. Many pet stores in the market were affected, causing devastation to the area known for its tourist influx. Preliminary investigations point to a possible electrical short circuit as the cause, prompting animal welfare groups to call for action against the illegal animal trade present in the market.
