A fire broke out at Clear Sky Mall in Hsinchu City on May 26, resulting in the tragic deaths of two firefighters. After 9 inspections and multiple pieces of evidence, Hsinchu City Fire Department concluded that the main cause was a 'short circuit in electrical wiring in the pipeline area' that sparked the fire. The case has now been sent to the Hsinchu District Prosecutor's Office for further investigation into potential criminal liability. The investigation ruled out possibilities such as charging piles or wiring causing the fire and highlighted issues regarding the construction regulations and material certifications used in the building. The tragic incident trapped 346 residents for 14 hours, with firefighters succumbing to toxic fumes while attempting a rescue. Calls for accountability and safety improvements have been raised by various parties following the incident.
