A pet shop in the downtown area of Hualien City caught fire on June 22, 2024, at 8:53 pm, with flames engulfing the building and thick smoke visible for several kilometers. The fire department arrived on the scene to rescue multiple dogs trapped inside the shop, with some pets requiring emergency oxygen due to inhaling toxic fumes. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
