In May, the New Taipei District Prosecutors' Office decided not to prosecute a case of dereliction of duty involving the secretary of New Taipei City Fire Department Director Li Qing'an, Xie Yingru. Investigation revealed Xie's husband, Lin Shiming, known as the 'fire department Beckham,' actively participates in various department activities and events. When Xie was investigated by the disciplinary office, Lin boldly accompanied her to defend her innocence, facing criticism of pressuring authorities. The Fire Department only issued a minor reprimand to Xie, prompting public outcry against favoritism and urging fair treatment for all government employees. In response to allegations, the New Taipei Fire Department stated prompt disciplinary actions were taken, denying accusations of protectionism and ensuring proper legal procedures are followed.
