First 'Sell Goods Conveniently' Scam Case in Taiwan | Linkou Police Substation Solves Public Security Cases

Reported 10 months ago

The Linkou Police Substation recently successfully cracked down on a fraud group led by a suspect surnamed Yang, using the method of impersonating convenience store 'Sell Goods Conveniently' customer service for scams, causing 7 victims to lose approximately NT$1.46 million. The fraud group posed as sellers in a Facebook group, claiming that following the seller would allow participation in a lucky draw, using receiving prizes after purchase as bait. The victims were then contacted by fake convenience store customer service regarding transaction issues and tricked into transferring funds to the fraud group's designated account. The case was difficult to investigate, but the substation managed to connect the main suspect Yang and driver Lee through extensive surveillance footage, successfully revealing evidence of their roles. The fraud group was busted on June 6, becoming Taiwan's first case of such fraud to be solved, with the suspects being transferred to the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office for investigation on charges of fraud and money laundering. The public is warned of prevalent 'fake online shopping scams,' where fraud groups post various product information on social platforms, posing as customer service representatives to gain trust and deceive people into filling out personal information and making payments, so vigilance is advised to avoid falling into scams.
