Fisherman Pays Fine, Japanese Authorities Initiate Release Procedure for Keelung Fishing Vessel 'Port Prosperity'

Reported about 1 year ago

A Taiwanese fishing vessel, the 'Port Prosperity No. 266,' suspected of fishing in the waters near Amami Oshima in Japan was intercepted by the Japanese Coast Guard. The vessel's 8 crew members were detained for investigation. Japanese authorities stated that once the owner, surnamed Tsai, paid the fine of 6,006,000 Japanese yen, the crew would be released. Tsai confirmed in the evening that the payment had been completed. After completing the necessary procedures at the Fukuoka office of the Fisheries Agency, the vessel will be released. Considering the fishing season, fines, and fuel costs, the 'Port Prosperity No. 266' will not return directly to Taiwan after being released by the Japanese authorities; instead, it will operate at sea before returning to Keelung after July 16.
