On June 9, 2024, at 4:40 AM, the Central Weather Bureau issued a special alert for heavy rain and thunderstorms in 16 counties and cities due to intense convective cloud development. The probability of localized heavy rain in certain areas was highlighted, emphasizing caution against lightning, strong gusts, landslides in mountainous regions, and flooding in low-lying areas. Nantou County was under a heavy rain alert, while Taipei City, New Taipei City, Taoyuan City, Hsinchu County, Miaoli County, Taichung City, Changhua County, Yunlin County, Chiayi City, Chiayi County, Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, Pingtung County, Yilan County, and Hualien County were under a rain alert. Immediate thunderstorm alerts were also issued for Hualien County and Yilan County to beware of heavy rainfall, lightning, landslides, rockfalls, mudslides, and low visibility.
