Premier Chen Rong-tai confirmed on June 28 that the Director of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Wu Xiumei, will step down at the end of June, with current dean of China Medical University's School of Pharmacy, Zhuang Sheng-hong, set to take over effective July 1. Wu Xiumei's resignation comes after being criticized for issues like the Sudan Red dye and Bao Lin cases as well as the recent Yung Feng Chemicals IV solution production halt, contributing to her departure. Minister Chen Rong-tai expressed respect for Wu's professionalism over the past 7 years and emphasized the importance of new leadership in continuing efforts in food safety and drug regulation.
