During a severe thunderstorm in the Eastern United States on June 28, 2024, lightning struck a Manhattan skyscraper, while in Illinois, a football field collapsed in just 10 seconds, creating a huge sinkhole 30 meters wide and 15 meters deep. The collapse was caused by the collapse of an underground mine shaft. Fortunately, no one was on the football field at the time, avoiding any injuries or casualties. The extreme weather also led to flooding in parts of New York and New Jersey, widespread power outages, and the postponement of sports games.
