On June 24, 2024, at 7:49 am, Coast Guard personnel yelled for a foreign yacht to stop, but the Taiwanese captain attempted to ram the Coast Guard vessel and escape, leading to a tense scene. The Coast Guard forcefully boarded and inspected the yacht, disguised as a pleasure craft but actually smuggling drugs. Minister of Justice Zheng Ming-qian mentioned the involvement of a separate smaller vessel in drug smuggling, leading to joint investigation with U.S. drug enforcement authorities. The bust resulted in nearly 1 ton of methamphetamine disguised as tea packets being seized, with an estimated value exceeding 9 billion NT dollars. All involved crew members, including the captain and six others, were arrested and will face charges under the Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act.
