The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that there was no approval for the purchase of specific vehicles as reported by a weekly magazine. The Taiwanese representative to the US, Yu Da-Hsuan, was reported to have spent part of his allotted budget on various luxurious items and was rumored to have intended to buy a $3.7 million Cadillac. The Ministry emphasized that there are regulations regarding the use and replacement of official vehicles, and they did not approve the purchase. They also clarified that any purchases made were in compliance with government procedures and regulations.
