Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank, stated that an influx of foreign workers has significantly bolstered the euro zone's economy by compensating for reduced working hours and falling real wages. Despite representing only 9% of the workforce in 2022, foreign workers contributed to half of labor market growth over the past three years. Additionally, the EU's population surged to a record 450.4 million, primarily due to net immigration, although this has triggered political backlash in some member states.
