In Changhua County, Taiwan, an unnamed severed palm mummy was discovered in Hemei Town. After forensic examination, it was confirmed that the deceased was a 40-year-old man surnamed Huang who had been dead for about a year. Concerns arose as family members noted the disappearance of the palms' bones, suspecting foul play. Renowned forensic expert Chao-Hsuang Kao pointed out that bones do not disintegrate within two years as claimed, suggesting that severed palms may not only occur due to debt-related violence but could also have other explanations like animal scavenging or accidental loss during body transport. Kao shared his experience of handling similar cases, where severed palms did not always imply debt disputes.
