On the afternoon of June 17, 2024, a 19-year-old driver, feeling unwell during a trip from Yilan to Kaohsiung, forgot to turn off the cruise control when stopping at the Yangmei rest area. This led to a collision with a guardrail, causing a chain reaction that involved seven cars. Three individuals sustained minor injuries, and the vehicles suffered severe damage, with bumpers, tires, and more all severely affected. The driver's vehicle was almost completely destroyed, as well as the others involved, resulting in significant repair costs.
