Former accountant of the Taipei Lawyers' Association, Li Xueqin, known as the 'ghostly accountant,' was sentenced to 7 years in prison for embezzling a total of 60.98 million New Taiwan dollars between 2013 and 2020. Upon being ordered to compensate 55.91 million NTD last year, the association discovered an additional embezzlement of over 29.12 million NTD. The Taipei District Court recently ruled that Li must repay over 29.72 million NTD, with the option to appeal. Li tearfully pleaded in court, stating she couldn't afford the amount due to selling her house and now relies on her mother for support, hoping to continue working and repay the association with half of her monthly salary.
