Former Chairman of Taiwan's Straits Exchange Foundation Resigns, Mainland Affairs Council: Chairman Identity Does Not Hinder Communication with Mainland China

Following ex-chairman Zheng Wen-Can's involvement in corruption and subsequent release on bail of 5 million NT dollars, he voluntarily resigned from his position, with former Control Yuan member Wu Feng-Shan being a potential successor. Mainland Affairs Council Vice Chairman Liang Wen-Jie emphasized that the identity of the chairman does not impede communication with the counterpart (China). President Lai Ching-Te had favored Wu for the position. Media speculated that the chairman is independent Wu. Liang Wen-Jie, during a legislative committee inquiry, noted that the next chairman selection plan will be reported soon. Liang stressed that the chairman's identity doesn't affect government communication with the counterpart. Additionally, the Presidential Office expressed respect for Zheng's decision and urged swift clarification from judicial authorities, ensuring correct handling of personnel matters at the foundation.
