Former Chiayi City Government official Wu Jianrong, who was involved in accepting bribes related to construction projects, has been sentenced to 7.5 years in prison for corruption. Despite trying to delay his imprisonment with medical reports and appealing against the verdict, all attempts were rejected, and he has now been summoned by the Chiayi District Prosecutors Office to begin serving his sentence. Wu was found guilty of accepting a total of 300,000 NT dollars in cash, along with high-end tea and coffee beans worth 228,900 NT dollars as bribes. Wu, who previously held the position of technical officer at the Municipal Engineering Department, returned to work for the government after retirement, overseeing the department he was familiar with, and had close ties to the mayor's associates.
