Reported by Hong Zhengda on June 18, 2024, former detective Hou Hongdian was sentenced to life imprisonment for shooting and killing someone, and later received a sentence of 1 year and 2 months for illegally dumping soil in violation of waste disposal laws. Hou, previously a police investigator, was found to be involved in a dispute over soil and fatally shot a person. He was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder in 2023 by the Chiayi District Court. During the investigation period, it was discovered that Hou was also involved in illegal dumping of construction waste. The judgment stated that Hou, along with an accomplice, Zhang Chenyuan, did not have the necessary permits for waste disposal, but agreed to dump construction waste on a landowner's property. Both transported mixed construction waste from Taipei and Miaoli to dump on the land, committing violations of waste disposal laws. Hou and others were convicted, with Hou being sentenced to 1 year and 2 months for his involvement in the waste dumping scheme. The case is subject to appeal. This acts as a warning against imitating such misconduct.
