Former Taoyuan Mayor and current chair of the Straits Exchange Foundation, Cheng Wen-Tsan, once a rising star in the DPP, is suspected of violating the Anti-Corruption Act. The Taoyuan District Prosecutors' Office applied for and the court approved a bail of NT$5 million, with restrictions on residence, travel, and contact with others related to the case. The prosecution has filed an appeal against the court's decision as they believe it was inappropriate, alleging significant criminal suspicions in the case. While four other defendants have been detained, one, an elderly individual surnamed Yang, has been placed under house arrest and forbidden from contacting related individuals, as the case, dating back 7 years, involves monitored conversations and collected evidence according to the court.
