Ippei Mizuhara, a former interpreter for Shohei Ohtani, has pleaded guilty to bank and tax fraud, admitting to stealing almost $17 million from the Japanese baseball player to repay sports betting debts. Mizuhara exploited his relationship with Ohtani, even impersonating him to bankers, and accumulated significant gambling debts. Ohtani acknowledged the fraud and expressed gratitude for the investigative closure. Mizuhara, who won over $142 million but lost around $41 million in bets, faces significant prison time and restitution payments.
