Ippei Mizuhara, the ex-interpreter for baseball star Shohei Ohtani, is set to plead guilty to bank and tax fraud in a sports betting scandal where he embezzled nearly $17 million from Ohtani. Mizuhara misused his relationship with Ohtani to steal money for sports gambling, with winning bets totaling $142 million and losing bets around $183 million. Despite no evidence of Ohtani's involvement, Mizuhara faces serious charges with up to 30 years in federal prison for bank fraud and up to three years for subscribing to a false tax return.
