Former KMT Central Standing Committee member Fan Chenglian, known for his retro 'plane head' hairstyle, was sentenced to 4 years in prison for bribery in helping Terry Gou, the founder of Foxconn, buy petition books at 400 NT each. Despite the successful collection of signatures, Gou eventually withdrew from the presidential race due to opposition unity and bribery allegations during the signature campaign. Fan was expelled from the KMT for his support for Gou, and the court found him guilty of bribery for raising funds for the petition books through intermediaries. Fan denied the bribery but was convicted, along with Newopu Town Representative Wang Zengji, who admitted guilt and received a lighter sentence.
