On June 29, 2024, at 5:40 AM, the impending departure of Wu Hsiu-mei, Director of the Food and Drug Administration, at the end of June sparked discussions. Former legislator Shen Fu-hsiung stated on a political talk show that if there's a connection between the shortage of IV solutions and Wu Hsiu-mei, 'I think replacing her would be just appropriate.' Shen Fu-hsiung questioned why Taiwan's IV solutions are facing problems and raised concerns about the healthcare system. He highlighted the issues with pricing policies affecting the production of IV solutions and criticized the government for not maintaining a balance between socialism and free-market principles. The shortage has been attributed to only one manufacturer producing IV solutions due to low pricing. Shen Fu-hsiung stressed the need for accountability in ensuring adequate supply and demand fulfillment. Ultimately, he implied that if Wu Hsiu-mei is held responsible for the shortage, replacing her would be justified.
