On June 26, 2024, a special task force found a large amount of cash in a safe at the home of former Maicuo Township chief Tsai Chang-kun, including cash in a green bag. The highest prosecutor's office accused Tsai Chang-kun and others of extorting money from green energy companies through inciting villagers to protest. About 2.7 million NTD in illegal gains were seized from Tsai's residence with a court order to detain Tsai and another individual while one was released on bail. The case involves allegations of threatening and extorting money from a wind power company in Yunlin County.
