Former Taoyuan Mayor and HAI Chairman Cheng Wen-tsang, detained on corruption charges, has been granted bail of five million NT dollars by the Taoyuan District Court. Restrictions on residence, travel, and leaving the country have been imposed, with the court explaining two reasons for granting bail. The charges stem from alleged bribery in the Hua Ya Science Park development case, where Cheng received 5 million NT dollars in bribes but later returned the funds to a certain individual in 2018, causing the judge to believe it was not criminal proceeds. This led to rejecting the prosecution's request for continued detention.
