Former Mayor Ko Wen-je's Unpaid Bill for Twin City Forum! Chen Pei-chi Challenges Mayor to Self-Pay, Legislator Chiang Wan-an: It's Ko's Administration Violating Council Resolution

Reported 8 months ago

Former Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je held a Twin City Forum before leaving office, incurring a $1.07 million unpaid bill due to violating a council resolution. Ko's wife, Chen Pei-chi, warned that if the city government under Mayor Chiang issued the bill, she would immediately settle it but urged against double standards: 'If you want to organize the forum, have the mayor personally foot the bill.' In response, Mayor Chiang Wan-an explained that it was the previous Ko administration's violation of the council's resolution that prevented the cancellation of the cost, emphasizing compliance with regulations, resolutions, and conventions regarding the forum and its importance as a communication platform between Taiwan and mainland China amidst escalating tensions. Chiang stressed the need to continue the forum based on equality, respect, goodwill, and reciprocity in line with legal provisions and past practices.
