Former Pioneer CEO Accused of OPEC Collusion Hires DC Lobbying Firm

Reported 8 months ago

Scott Sheffield, the former CEO of Pioneer Natural Resources Co., has hired a Washington, DC lobbying firm following accusations by the US Federal Trade Commission of attempting to collude with OPEC. The FTC found evidence that Sheffield tried to communicate with OPEC and US peers about oil pricing and output during the review of Exxon Mobil Corp.'s acquisition of Pioneer. The matter has been referred for a potential criminal investigation, and although the sale was approved, Sheffield was barred from joining Exxon's board. Sheffield denies the allegations and has enlisted Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck LLP to lobby on FTC-related issues.
