Former PLA Captain Arrested for Unauthorized Entry into Taiwan by Speedboat

Reported 8 months ago

On June 9th, a Chinese national surnamed Ruan was arrested by the Coast Guard after illegally entering Taiwan by speeding across the Tamsui River. He was transferred to the Shilin District Prosecutors Office for violating laws related to relations between Taiwan and mainland China. The court ruled today to detain and prohibit Ruan from communicating, citing concerns of potential escape due to his lack of a fixed residence in Taiwan. Ruan, a former PLA captain, claimed he fled to Taiwan for political asylum after being reported for anti-China government remarks on WeChat. However, investigations are ongoing to clarify his true motives. The case will be prosecuted according to the law, with necessary details disclosed when appropriate to reassure the public.
