On June 10, the coast guard in northern Taiwan arrested a mainland Chinese man surnamed Ruan at Tamsui Fisherman's Wharf in New Taipei City for piloting a boat on his own, sparking national security concerns as he has a background serving as a naval captain in the People's Liberation Army. Senior media personality Huang Yangming warned that the incident should not be underestimated, stressing the potential loss of confidence in the coast guard and maritime defense. He questioned the security breach that allowed the man to enter the river undiscovered, emphasizing that any questionable motives could severely impact national security.
