Former Quality Assurance Association Accountant Accused of Embezzling 30.31 Million NT$, Prosecuted by Northern Prosecutors for Business Embezzlement and Money Laundering

Former Vice Secretary-General and Accountant of the Chinese Taipei Travel Industry Quality Assurance Association, Lee Xiuqing, is accused of embezzling members' guarantee funds and misappropriating association funds from 2004 to 2018, totaling 30.31 million NT$. The Northern Prosecutors' Office on June 17 prosecuted Lee on charges of business embezzlement and money laundering. Lee allegedly altered and cashed checks without authorization, misappropriated funds, filled false transaction details to cover up, and even purchased foreign currencies and a house in New Taipei City. The case was exposed after Lee's retirement when members inquired about guarantee funds. The prosecutors filed charges against Lee for embezzling 28.83 million NT$ and a total of 30.31 million NT$ over 14 years.
