Reported about 1 year ago
Former Taoyuan City Mayor and current Chairman of the Taiwan Strait Exchange Foundation, Cheng Wen-tsan, is suspected of violating the Anti-Corruption Act and receiving bribes related to official duties. The Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office sought detention in court, but the Taoyuan District Court ruled for bail of NT$5 million, along with residential and travel restrictions. Cheng Wen-tsan, after paying bail, smiled and left the court without commenting, later issuing a statement asserting his innocence. The incident coincided with his 57th birthday and has caused a stir in various circles. Cheng Wen-tsan has since resigned as Chairman of the Taiwan Strait Exchange Foundation. The case is ongoing, and updates will continue to be reported.
