Former Taoyuan Mayor and Chairman of the Taiwan Strait Exchange Foundation, Cheng Wen-tsang, was suspected of being involved in a corruption scandal and was detained for not being allowed to meet anyone on the early morning of July 6. Over a year ago, Taoyuan City councilor Ling revealed that Cheng helped a fraud group led by Guo Zemin manipulate land prices, resulting in profits of 3.15 billion NTD in just 2 years. The Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office confirmed Cheng's involvement in the corruption case and that he has been arrested on suspicion of bribery in the course of official duties.
