Former Taoyuan Mayor Cheng Wen-tsang was implicated in a corruption case involving the Huaya Group's land development during his term, suspected of accepting a bribe of 5 million NT dollars and called in for questioning and detention, initially granted bail at 5 million NT dollars, which was appealed by the prosecution and sent back by the High Court. The Taoyuan District Court then ruled to set bail at 12 million NT dollars. The prosecution raised another appeal in court. The court stated reasons for the decision, mentioning concerns about evidence tampering and witness tampering, but also highlighting the lack of clear explanation from the prosecution regarding influential figures in the Taoyuan City Government who are aware of the case. Despite this, the court decided to increase the bail amount by 7 million NT dollars due to the serious nature of the alleged crimes.
