Former Taoyuan Mayor and Chairman of HAI Foundation, Cheng Wen-Tsan, was suspected of receiving bribes related to the development of the Hwa-Ya Science Park during his mayoral term and was taken for overnight questioning by the Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office on the evening of the 5th, followed by being detained and released on bail of 5 million on the 6th. Cheng later issued a statement on the 6th night asserting his innocence and commitment to defending his integrity throughout the judicial investigation process. The case involved alleged bribery for land development, with Cheng accused of receiving a bribe to push through a rezoning project.
