Former Taoyuan Mayor Zheng Wen-can Released on Bail of NT$5 Million in Alleged Corruption Case, Leaves Court Smiling Without Speaking

On July 6, 2024, former Taoyuan Mayor and Chairman of the Mainland Affairs Council Foundation, Zheng Wen-can, was suspected of violating the Anti-Corruption Act. The Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office applied for detention and restriction of access which was denied by the court. Zheng was granted bail of NT$5 million and restrictions on residence and travel. With his lawyer, Zheng left the court smiling but did not respond to any questions from the media. Prosecutors filed an appeal immediately. Zheng's lawyer brought the bail money to the court, and Zheng walked out of the Taoyuan District Court with a smile, choosing to remain silent amidst media inquiries about his feelings regarding the incident on his birthday.
