Former Taoyuan Mayor and current chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation, Zheng Wen-Can, appeared at the Taoyuan District Prosecutors' Office with a smile as he faced allegations of bribery related to the development of the Hwaya Technology Park. The court decided to release him on bail of 5 million NT dollars and imposed restrictions on his residence and travel. However, prosecutors objected to this decision and will file an appeal. Zheng is accused of receiving a bribe through an intermediary to influence a land development project during his time as mayor, which involved attempts to expand an industrial zone by incorporating agricultural land. Despite the ongoing legal proceedings, Zheng remained tight-lipped and left in a car without responding to questions from the media.
