Former Taoyuan City Mayor and Chairman of Taiwan's Straits Exchange Foundation, Zheng Wencan, was arrested for alleged corruption and taken into custody by the Taoyuan District Prosecutor's Office on July 5. He was interrogated for over 16 hours before being detained and denied visitors. Zheng's arrest is reportedly related to a land development change case during his tenure as mayor, specifically concerning the 'Change of the Lin-Kou Designated Area Plan - Expansion Plan for the Industrial Zone W5' in Taoyuan. However, detailed information on the case is pending clarification by the prosecution.
