Thailand's former Prime Minister Thaksin has been formally charged with lèse-majesté by the Thai prosecution on June 18th and was granted bail with a bail amount of 500,000 baht. Due to his age, Thaksin was allowed bail but with restrictions including surrendering his passport, restricted travel, and a prohibition on leaving the country without court permission. Thaksin, accused of offenses related to insulting the monarchy during a 2015 visit to South Korea, returned to Thailand from exile last August and faced charges under the lèse-majesté law and the Computer Crime Act. His trial officially began on June 18th, as confirmed by Thaksin's lawyer Winyat Chatmontree, who stated that Thaksin maintains his innocence and is prepared to defend himself in court.
