Former Translator Admits to Stealing 550 Million NTD from Shohei Ohtani

On June 8, 2024, former translator of MLB star Shohei Ohtani, Ippei Mizuhara, confessed to stealing a large sum of money from Ohtani, potentially facing over 30 years in prison. Mizuhara was caught working as an Uber Eats delivery driver in Los Angeles after the fraud case, with NBC LA reporting that he has now lost that job due to the recent allegations. Mizuhara admitted to transferring nearly 170 million USD (around 550 million NTD) from Ohtani's account without his knowledge to pay off gambling debts. Mizuhara pleaded guilty to bank fraud and tax evasion, with a sentencing date set for October 25th, facing a maximum of 33 years in prison. Following Mizuhara's confession, Ohtani expressed relief and gratitude for the swift investigation by authorities.
