On July 6, 2024, in Taiwan, at 7:07 am, the Secretary-General of the Taiwan Tree People Association, Pan Hanjiang, visited the hospital to see Irene. Irene, the former wife of the late DPP former chairman Shih Ming-teh and a senior DPP member, was reported to have been in a car accident on July 6 and was urgently rushed to Wanfang Hospital for treatment. The DPP has sent a representative to visit her, providing assistance according to the party member care plan. Irene suffered a fractured left elbow in the accident, underwent surgery, and is currently recovering in the ward. Pan Hanjiang visited Irene at the hospital, stating that the surgery went smoothly in the morning, and Irene expressed gratitude for the concern but declined visits, wishing to rest. It is expected that she can be discharged in two to three days. Irene, born in 1949, is a recipient of the Cheng Nan-jung Memorial Award, an American human rights activist, and Shih Ming-teh's former wife.
