The founder of Gotbit, a cryptocurrency financial services firm, has pleaded guilty in federal court in Boston to charges of market manipulation and wire fraud. Aleksei Andriunin's guilty plea follows his extradition from Portugal, and relates to a scheme involving wash trading to artificially inflate trading volumes for clients' digital tokens between 2018 and 2024. He faces up to two years in prison at sentencing, and Gotbit has agreed to forfeit approximately $23 million in cryptocurrency.
