The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced that Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, and Texas will start voluntary pilot programs to test bird flu in bulk milk tanks on dairy farms. The program aims to facilitate interstate shipment of herds and help track the virus spread. Farmers can move herds across state lines without additional testing if bulk milk tank samples test negative for H5N1 for three consecutive weeks. This initiative is part of efforts to contain the spread of bird flu in dairy cattle herds across several states.
